Refuge Canada

Refugee Contributions

Adapting to life in Canada is often a challenge for refugees. Many must learn a new language, find employment, and look for a place to live. Each must also overcome legal hurdles to become a permanent resident, then a Canadian citizen.

People who come to Canada as refugees may also face identity issues. Although some may identify as refugees for the rest of their lives, others may wish to leave that part of their past behind. When refugees are welcomed and supported, they have a better chance of success.

Canada has been successful in settling past waves of refugees, who have made important contributions to the overall growth of Canada. The success and achievements of refugees often make people forget they came as refugees. Their successes can also become an inspiration to Canadians and new refugees alike.
