Curator, Historic Furniture and Decorative Arts
Dr. Blanchette’s research interests include eighteenth and nineteenth century historic furniture and decorative arts, and the history of folk art and traditional crafts in Canada. As an exhibition curator, his credits include Heart and Soul: Quebec Folk Art, and the virtual exhibition Nettie Covey Sharpe House. He has also studied the contribution made to Canada and in particular to Quebec by Canadians of Irish descent, and is the co-author of the publication From the Heart, Folk Art in Canada.
With academic training in History, Archaeology, Ethnology and Anthropology, Dr. Blanchette approaches his subjects from a multidisciplinary perspective. He has a PhD in Anthropology from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
