Dr. Judith Klassen: Pop Music in Canada
The Museum is several years into a major research, acquisition and exhibition project that examines popular music in Canada during the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. Bringing together songs, videos, and material culture (instruments, stage clothing, handwritten lyrics, etc.), the Retro exhibition explores popular music as culture, paying close attention to its personal, political and social dimensions. In this conversation, talk with Dr. Judith Klassen, the Museum’s Curator, Music and Performing Arts, about how the project came to be. Hear stories about some of the treasures on display and discover how popular music is much more than sound.
General admission: $10 + tax
