Description of role:
Access Ambassador Volunteers will contribute to better addressing the diverse access needs of visitors by ensuring they feel welcomed and supported during their visit to the CINÉ+ experience at the Canadian Museum of History. This volunteer role complements the services provided by museum staff, by offering additional thoughtful, person-centered assistance to visitors attending the films.
After guests are greeted and oriented by staff at the Box Office, Access Ambassador Volunteers will be present and prepared to provide personalized and friendly support to those who may benefit from additional help. Volunteers move between the Box Office, the CINÉ+ entrance and exit to assist guests in navigating the space, locating accessible or comfortable seating, and ensuring that everyone feels included and cared for. Available during high times, Volunteers will be proactive in enhancing the access to all visitors who wish to experience the numerous CINÉ+ films available for viewing each day. This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute to a welcoming and inclusive environment by supporting the unique needs of each film-viewer.
Responsibilities:
Volunteers may be asked to support any of the below tasks:
- Usher visitors to comfortable and accessible seating according to their needs.
- Escort visitors to and up the elevator, to the exit of the CINÉ+, and through the heavy door to the theatre’s accessibility seating area.
- Explain to visitors how you can assist them during their visit to the CINÉ+ or describe general accessibility services available to them.
- Hold or open doors for visitors to enter or exit through safely.
- Support the visitor welcoming to the CINÉ+ and thank visitors upon their exit.
- Support visitors with acquiring and installing descriptive video and hearing aid technology at their chosen seat.
- Identify locations to park strollers, or leave baggage that visitors are carrying with them.
- Repeat information or expectations to provide clarity to individuals or groups

Eligibility Criteria:
Time commitment and Logistics:
- Volunteers must be prepared for shifts to take place for in-person involvement at the Canadian Museum of History exclusively.
- Those who wish to volunteer must commit to attending a training session scheduled before a volunteer shift.
- Shifts will take place on weekdays and weekends, between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm.
- Shifts will be between 2-6 hours in length, according to the volunteer’s availability and preference.
- Scheduling of volunteer shifts will change to Documentary showtimes which are subject to change weekly.
- Flexible start and end date.
- Volunteers will not be trained Professional Support workers, and will not provide tours or historical content to visitors in any capacity.
