Dr. Katie Pollock on Shaping the Nation-to-Nation Relationship

Within the past two years, the federal government has signed self-government agreements with three Métis governments: the Métis Nation of Saskatchewan and the Métis Nation of Alberta in 2023, and the Manitoba Métis Federation in 2024.

Join Dr. Katie Pollock, Curator of Indigenous Histories and Contemporary Cultures, Central, as she explores what these new self-government agreements mean right now — on the ground, and within the broader context of Indigenous rights and politics. The discussion will consider how concepts such as sovereignty, homeland, and recognition are being redefined not just by the state, but by Métis governments themselves, as well as what’s at stake as these new relationships take shape.
