How do museums become active sites of resurgence for Indigenous art, identity and sovereignty?
Join Kristine McCorkell, Curator, Indigenous Art, as they explore how ethical acquisition practices, artist relationships, and artist-guided stewardship are reshaping the Canadian Museum of History’s collection into a living space of cultural continuity — one that honours sovereignty, kinship, and the ongoing continuance of queer Indigenous life across time.
Through this presentation, audiences will gain insight into how museum collections can move beyond preservation to become collaborative, relational spaces, and how Indigenous-led approaches are transforming what it means to care for and interpret art in institutional settings.
