Description

This pole depicts Eagle and Bear, and is attributed to Tom Price of the World Heritage Site of Ninstints (Skungwaii). It was carved at the end of the last century, before the community fled Ninstints for the northern end of Haida Gwaii: 38.1cm high. The argillite reproduction pieces in high density resin are moulded from casts of original argillite Haida carvings from the Canadian Museum of History’s collections. Argillite is a soft slate found only on Haida Gwaii (the Queen Charlotte Islands); it was first quarried in the 1820’s on Slatechuck Mountain.
