From Today’s Special to broadcast news to provincial politics, Nerene Virgin has become a leader in challenging racism and championing education. Surrounded by some of her children’s programs in the exhibition From Pepinot to PAW Patrol® – Television of Our Childhoods, she is joined by filmmaker and activist Anthony Sherwood in a discussion of where “diversity” in the Canadian film and television industry goes from here.

Anthony Sherwood, whose film career includes acting opposite Sidney Poitier, is also an award-winning documentary filmmaker and advisor to museums on highlighting the Canadian Black experience. His social justice work includes lobbying for visible minority representation within the film industry.

This conversation will be moderated by CBC journalist David Thurton.

This event is part of the “An Evening with” series, which is designed to encourage open dialogue at the Canadian Museum of History. The series welcomes top experts and personalities in history, politics, the media, sports, and the arts, exploring various issues within the context of a moderated discussion.

This event is presented in English with simultaneous French interpretation.
