Webcast of the Water Blessing Ceremony

January 18, 2023
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Celebrate the Feast of the Theophany in traditional Ukrainian Catholic rite and attend a Water Blessing Ceremony from the comfort of your home. Broadcast from St. Onuphrius Ukrainian Catholic Church, located in the Canadian History Hall of the Canadian Museum of History, the ceremony will take place on January 19 at 4:30 p.m. (EST).

The Museum of History houses St. Onuphrius Church, the former home of the Ukrainian-Catholic parish of Barich, Alberta. The church was built in phases between 1915 and 1928. St. Onuphrius provided a space where Ukrainian Catholics living in the rural community could follow the devotional practices and the liturgical cycles that structured their lives.

In 1995–1996, it was dismantled board by board, transported to Gatineau, and rebuilt in the Museum, where it remains a consecrated living church. Its story still resonates today. The Water Blessing Ceremony has been celebrated at the Museum of History for over 15 years.
