Visit with the conservation and preparation teams

Wednesday, May 15, 2024

The Museum’s conservation team is responsible for maintaining the national collection comprised of almost 4 million artifacts, including archaeology, objects and archives. On this tour, you will meet conservators and learn about some of their treatments and research projects. You will begin your visit in the preventive conservation lab, learning about what conservation is and how we monitor and control risk to the entire collection. Then, you will move to the paper, objects, archaeology and textile labs for a closer look at the work of caring for artifacts.

During your visit, you will also tour the workshops of our preparers and see some of them at work. Come talk to our specialists in textile presentation, replica making, media fabrication, and 3D printing. In addition to designing exhibition materials, installing various exhibition elements, and ensuring the proper functioning of the devices in the exhibitions, the Museum’s preparation team is experienced in creating sets and props, making your visit to the Museum an unforgettable experience.
