In the years that followed the founding of Quebec City in 1608, the French established new
relationships with the northeastern Iroquoians. In 1615, Champlain visited the
Huron-Wendat for the first time, who were living south of Georgian Bay, and concluded an
alliance with them. The Huron-Wendat quickly became the main trading partners of the
French, and they maintained this advantageous position until 1650, when the Iroquois
forced them to disperse.
