The Franco-Huron Alliance and the War with the Iroquois
In the early 17th century, the development of the fur trade led the French to once again
consider the possibility of settling New France. At the time, the Iroquoians had
disappeared from the St. Lawrence Valley. They were replaced by the Montagnais and the
Algonquin, peoples of the Algonquian family.
