Porpoise Oil

This 12-minute video captures key activities from the 1936 documentary film Porpoise Oil by Alexander Leighton. The original 20-minute film presents a dramatic re-enactment of the porpoise hunt among the Mi'kmaq of Bear River, near Digby, Nova Scotia. At the time this film was made, it had been almost 40 years since the last porpoise hunt among the Mi'kmaq.
