E. B. Eddy manufacturing building
The First Industrial Site in the Ottawa Valley
This is where the industrial and economic history of the Ottawa River Valley began. It was on this site that Philemon Wright built the first industrial building in the Ottawa Valley: a trip hammer workshop established in 1803 and rebuilt in 1808 after a fire. It was here that Ezra Butler Eddy began manufacturing matches in Hull in 1854. The survivng stone building, built in 1883, was part of the E. B. Eddy paper plant.
Between this building and its neighbour, the first wood slide in North America was built in 1829.
