Oh bella, oh bella, oh bella, ragazzine venite qua
Oh bella, oh bella, oh bella, ragazzine venite qua
Oh bella, oh bella, oh bella, ragazzine venite qua
Note : The word cecchino, used here as the hunter’s first name, is a derogatory term for a tiratore scelto (franc-tireur). This word originated during the First World War, when it was commonly used to refer to Austro-Hungarian francs-tireurs.
The Canadian Crow
Once upon a time there was a raven, hopelessly in love
With a beautiful crow who lived in Canada
But the beautiful crow made fun of this love
Because it was in love with Cecchino the hunter
Oh, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful tale of the hunter
Who courts the Canadian crow
Oh, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, come here girls
I will sing you the story of the Canadian crow
And one day the crow was up in a pine tree
And the raven down below winked at it
But the beautiful crow made fun of this love
Because it was in love with Cecchino the hunter
Oh, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful tale of the hunter
Who courts the Canadian crow
Oh, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, come here girls
I will sing you the story of the Canadian crow
The wedding day was all arranged
And the beautiful crow was in the middle of a meadow
And Cecchino passed by on a pony
Mistook it for the raven and, with one shot, he killed it!
Oh, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful tale of the hunter
Who courts the Canadian crow
Oh, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, come here girls
I will sing you the story of the Canadian crow
