Carmelle Bégin studied ethnomusicology in Paris and obtained her doctorate from the Faculty of Music of the Université de Montréal in 1979.

at the Canadian Museum of Civilization since 1975,
Dr. Bégin plays a major role in research on traditional Canadian instrumental music. She is the author of many publications and has been the curator of several exhibitions, the last one was entitled Resonance, Musical Heritage of La Francophonie.

Her work and her gathering of sound recordings, now partly reproduced on CDs, has provided the Canadian Museum of Civilization with one of the major collections in this field in Canada.
