In 1990 I spent a short time at Ge'atat dilee. For that period, Victor Simon worked
with us. As we were just on the next lake down from Kugaluk Lake, acquaintances
of Victor and Willie Simon came to visit us on a few occasions, and
likewise, we went to their camp. When it was time for the obligatory
crew shot, our guests included Mr. John Norbert. John and Victor are
seated on the right hand side of the picture on the left.
Two years later I was gathering old photographs at the National Archives of Canada, to use in the production of a documentary video. One of these photographs, taken in 1945, was of a group of young boys sitting on an overturned canoe. When Willie Simon Modeste eventually saw the documentary which contained this photo, he commented on the identities of two of the boys: his brother Victor, seated on the very right and his friend John Norbert immediatly to his left.
