Chief Joseph and Buffalo Bill behind the scenes, Ambro Park, Brooklyn, New York
Buffalo Bill Historical Center P.71.978.1
Following the Northwest Rebellion of 1885, Gabriel Dumont, a former buffalo hunter, joined Buffalo Bill's Wild West for brief periods from 1886 to 1888. He joined the show to raise public awareness of the plight of Métis people. He is pictured wearing the medals given to him by French Canadians living in the United States, where he was touring with the show.
