Mr. Wang Yun and Miss Diao Chan in the Badger Game

(Wang Yun xian Diao Chan)

Volumes 1 and 2 of 4Volumes 3 and 4 of 4

Diao Chan is one of the Four Great Beauties of Ancient China. During the Jianan Period (ca. A.D. 200) of the Han Dynasty, General Dong Zhuo becomes the de facto ruler of China while the Emperor is still a toddler. General Dong Zhuo is a cruel dictator, and many officials of the Han Dynasty are killed under his regime. Dong Zhuo has an adopted son named Lu Bu. Lu Bu is a young, handsome man with unbeatable martial arts skills. He is also the head of Dong Zhuo's security force, foiling many attempted assassinations by virtue of his excellent security network.

Wang Yun is an official of the Han Dynasty, and is loyal to the young Emperor. Diao Chan is a maid in Wang Yun's house, and is highly trained in music and dance. To repay Wang Yun's lifelong support of her family, she agrees to participate in a badger game concocted by Wang Yun, targetting the relationship between General Dong Zhuo and his adopted son Lu Bu. She is sent from Wang Yun to General Dong Zhuo as a courtesan, but "falls in love" with Lu Bu, who is the same age as she. She cleverly interacts with both men, making them hate one another as time goes by. Lu Bu finally kills Dong Zhuo in a jealous rage, and the General's extremely corrupt party is thus wiped out. This story of right over might is popular in China, and has been told from generation to generation.
