Music can be the voice of a nation….

It can express the unexpressed, give context to raw emotions, and bring people together in times of joy and sorrow.

These powerful words about the importance of music come from Leonard Cohen, the legendary Canadian singer-songwriter. They reflect Cohen’s deep insight into music’s natural ability to shape culture and foster community, standing as a testament to the power of human experience in all its dimensions.

In much the same way, our recent achievements are a testament to the power of shared experiences and collaboration. I am deeply grateful for the incredible support from our donors that helps to make all of this possible.

Your contributions are vital to the success of the Museum’s projects, and we could not have come this far without you. A special thank you goes to Power Corporation of Canada, the presenting sponsor for Retro – Popular Music in Canada From the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s at the Canadian Museum of History. Their commitment to enriching cultural experiences sets a standard for corporate sponsorship, and we are proud to partner with them on this exciting journey. The exhibition promises to be a vibrant celebration of the rich musical heritage that has shaped our society.

Additionally, our newly opened exhibition at the Canadian War Museum, Last Voices of the Second World War, commemorates the 80th anniversary of the war’s end. This initiative builds on the In Their Own Voices project you have generously supported, showcasing powerful stories from surviving Canadian veterans and their loved ones. Through interviews, veterans share their unique post-war experiences, and their voices — captured in film and audio — will resonate with future generations. It’s a testament to our collective commitment to honouring these vital narratives, made possible by your support.
