Xavier Gélinas

Curator, Canadian Political History

Dr. Gélinas works on expanding artifactual and documentary collections in the field of Canadian political history. From 2003 to 2012, he was the Chief Curator of the Museum’s permanent exhibition Face to Face: The Canadian Personalities Hall, opened in 2007. In 2012, he curated the exhibition A Queen and her Country, dedicated to the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II,.

His research interests center on the political and intellectual history of Quebec and Canada in the twentieth century. Before joining the Museum, Dr. Gélinas worked on the CBC/Radio Canada project Canada: A People’s History. He is the co-editor of Duplessis, son milieu, son époque (Septentrion, 2010) and the author of La droite intellectuelle québécoise et la Révolution tranquille (Presses de l’Université Laval, 2007). From 2002 to 2009, he served on the editorial committee of MENS: Revue d’histoire intellectuelle de l’Amérique française. He has also served as Editor of the biographical series Les grandes figures (XYZ éditeur), and is currently responsible for the History series of the Cahiers du Québec (Hurtubise).

Dr. Gélinas received a BA and an MA in history from the Université de Montréal, and a PhD from York University.
