Demonstration of fine cabinetmaking and textile art techniques at the Canadian Museum of Civilization

Gatineau, Quebec, October 20, 2006 — On Sunday, October 29, enjoy a demonstration by Karel Aelterman and Erin Robertson on fine cabinetmaking and textile art in the Main Lobby of the Canadian Museum of Civilization. This is a great opportunity to meet these local craftspeople and better understand their passion for the craft.

Karel Aelterman is an artist who designs and builds high-end fine furniture out of his studio in Gatineau, Quebec. Karel was born in Belgium in 1966 and has been living in Canada since 1994. He has exhibited his unique, contemporary pieces locally and nationally since 2005 and sells through galleries or directly to clients.

Erin Robertson has been teaching drawing, painting and sculpture at the Ottawa School of Art for several years. Erin’s mixed media sculptures and illustrations can be enjoyed in many different Ottawa venues, including Artguise on Bank Street, Lafrenière and Pai on Murray Street and the Canadian Children’s Museum. Her work has been collected and exhibited in North America and Europe.
