PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

For immediate release

Gatineau, Quebec, September 28, 2012 — This weekend only, the Canadian Museum of Civilization invites you to admire O Canada! Our Homeland, an impressive work by artist Ming Shui Jang.

Painted in ink, watercolour and acrylic, and measuring 800 cm by 100 cm, O Canada! Our Homeland will be on display in the William E. Taylor Salon from September 28 to 30.

Artist Ming Shui Jang describes O Canada! Our Homeland as his celebration of the freedom, harmony and friendship that he has found in Canada since arriving here two decades ago. The painting depicts the nation from coast to coast, with British Columbia on the left side of the painting, Newfoundland and Labrador on the right and Canada Day festivities on Parliament Hill in the middle.

For Ming Shui Jang, his painting displays the pride and confidence of all Canadians living harmoniously in this beautiful multicultural nation.  It was not an easy task for the 80-year-old artist to complete the piece, but his love for Canada has inspired him, and after three years of hard work, he has put the final touch on his master work.

Born in Hong Kong in 1933, Ming Shui Jang  graduated from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 1955. Since then, he has used both ancient Chinese and contemporary Western painting styles in his work.

This special display is part of the Museum of Civilization’s Culture Days celebrations.
