A musical journey to the Middle Ages with Música Antígua at the Canadian Museum of Civilization

Gatineau, Quebec, October 16, 2006 – On Thursday, October 26, 2006, the Canadian Museum of Civilization invites you to attend a performance of medieval music by the renowned Spanish ensemble Música Antígua. Under the direction of Spanish medieval music specialist Eduardo Paniagua, the trio will transport you back in time with the exquisite sounds of medieval Christian, Jewish and Moslem Spain. This magnificent concert, presented in partnership with the Outaouais Festival of Sacred Music and the Embassy of Spain, will amaze you with the quality of the performance and the beauty of the music.

Created in 1994, Música Antígua has recorded the complete Cantigas de Santa Maria of King Alfonso X, one of the largest compilations of musical pieces that has survived from the 13th century. Musical director Eduardo Paniagua splendidly marries medieval songs with typical instruments of the period, such as the lute, flute and viola. A unique opportunity to hear one of the world’s most celebrated medieval ensembles.
