The Canadian Museum of Civilization wins award
from Ottawa Tourism

Gatineau, Quebec, May 13, 2011—The Canadian Museum of Civilization has won an award for its partnership with the National Capital Commission in hosting the opening ceremonies of Winterlude 2010.

The prize in the category Partnership of the Year 2010 was awarded to the Museum of Civilization, in association with the National Capital Commission, Thursday night during the annual Ottawa Tourism Awards.

“The Museum is proud to share this honour with the National Capital Commission, said Chantal J. Schryer, Vice-President, Public Affairs and Publishing. The award highlights the fact that the Museum of Civilization is much more than a Museum. Over 13,000 festival-goers came to celebrate the launch of Winterlude 2010 on the grounds of what has become a must-see cultural site for all Canadians.”

The prestigious awards from Ottawa Tourism recognize outstanding examples of quality and creativity in events, celebrations and innovations in the National Capital Region.

The Museum was also nominated for an award in the category Innovation of the year for its BlackBerry application.
“This application enhances the visitor experience for those who are on site at our Museums, and also has the added benefit of making our information accessible to people all over the world. The Museum is proud to have been the first museum in the world to introduce a Blackberry application”, said Michèle Canto, Director of Marketing and Business Operations.
The Museum of Civilization’s Mobile Application for BlackBerry Bold 9700 is available for free on BlackBerry App World in both official languages.

The Canadian Museum of Civilization was the first museum in the world to introduce a BlackBerry application for access to its audioguides and other Museum information. This follows on a similar first for an application accessible to iPhone and iPod Touch in December 2009. Owners of these popular handheld devices can obtain one-stop access to Museum information from anywhere in the world.
