Clever! Museums the destination for distinctive gifts

Gatineau, Quebec, December 3, 2007 — Are you tired of malls and big box stores? Looking for original holiday presents? Shopping at the Museum is the key to clever giving! The Canadian Museum of Civilization (CMC) and the Canadian War Museum (CWM) are great destinations for unique gift ideas, including memberships, gift cards and a wide range of tempting items on sale in the Museum Boutiques.

The CMC’s two Boutiques, both located on the main level, carry a wonderful selection of special gifts for all tastes and budgets. Choose from jewelry, books, CDs, DVDs, clothing, historical reproductions, decorations and home accessories related to the permanent and special exhibitions. You’ll also find one-of-a-kind art objects and exquisite collectibles produced by some Canada’s finest artisans and Native and Inuit craftspeople. The CMC’s Boutique Express kiosk, on Level 2 near the Canadian Children’s Museum, offers toys, games, souvenirs of Canada and other fun and educational stuff for kids of all ages!

The CWM’s Boutique features an outstanding selection of military books, models, clothing and games, along with collectibles such as toy soldiers and reproductions. For the youngsters on your gift list, there are Canadian souvenirs, books and other children’s products.

With so much to see at both Museums, everyone wants to visit again and again! For just $85, a one-year membership provides unlimited access to both the CMC and CWM, a guided tour, special invitations to previews, and other discounts at IMAX and the Boutique. Student and senior memberships are just $55, while special family and grandparent memberships are a bargain at $99. Membership packages are available at box offices and membership desks.

For friends and family who enjoy seeing the world at large – and in extra-large format – consider IMAX © Club memberships, which offer unlimited admission to the CMC’s IMAX Theatre for a whole year. IMAX Club cards cost only $45 ($40 for youths and seniors, and $35 for children 12 and under) for admission to more than 10 different films, access to the annual IMAX Film Festival, and other special screenings. IMAX Club memberships are available at box offices and membership desks.

If you just can’t decide what to give, give a Museum gift card from our Boutiques, box offices or membership desks, which can be used for admission to the CMC, CWM or IMAX Theatre, toward memberships, or for Boutique purchases.

The CMC and CWM Boutiques are open during Museum hours, Tuesdays through Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Thursdays until 9:00 p.m. And if you’re too busy to drop by, you can do your shopping online in the Cyberboutique at http://cyberboutique.historymuseum.ca.
