PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

For immediate release

DEADLINE: MARCH 31, 2019

Gatineau, Quebec, February 28, 2019 — The Canadian Museum of History is now accepting applications for its RBC Indigenous Internship Program (formerly known as the RBC Aboriginal Training Program in Museum Practices). This eight-month program, the only one of its kind in Canada, offers professional and technical training in museum practices to First Nations, Métis and Inuit people from across Canada. The deadline for applications is March 31, 2019.

All training is under the supervision of the professional staff of the Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum in a variety of fields, including research, collections, exhibitions, public programs, corporate affairs, publishing, development and museum services. The objective of this internship is to offer practical experience for Indigenous people who would like to broaden their skills in various aspects of museum work. Training is available in both official languages.

Since 1993, the Museums have welcomed interns from over 40 different Indigenous Nations and communities across Canada. Graduates have gone on to become role models and advocates in the museum and cultural sectors. Upon completing the Program, many graduates have used their training and experience to become community museum staff, directors, instructors or government employees, or to help them select a specific area of expertise in which to further their studies.

To learn more about the Program, visit historymuseum.ca/indigenoustraining or contact Gaëlle Mollen, Program Coordinator, at 819-776-8270 or gaelle.mollen@historymuseum.ca.

Work of the Canadian Museum of History is made possible in part through financial support of the Government of Canada.
