A Unique Opportunity to Meet Some of Canada’s Most Distinguished Craftspeople

Gatineau, Quebec, October 18, 2006 — On Thursday, October 26, 2006, you are invited to join some of Canada’s most distinguished craftspeople to discuss the role of craft today. The Ontario Crafts Council, in partnership with the Canadian Museum of Civilization, will host a panel discussion on the Canadian craft tradition. The panel will be made up of the five 2006 Saidye Bronfman Award finalists — Michael D. Massie, Kevin Lockau, Peter Pierobon, Peter Powning and Anna Torma — and will be moderated by independent curator Arlene Gehring.

This event is presented in conjunction with the Museum’s newest exhibition Unique! 30 Years of Outstanding Crafts, in which Canada’s most stunning and original handcrafted pieces take centre stage. From elegant furniture to delicate glassware, Unique! showcases Canadian creativity at its best, and runs from October 26, 2006 to August 5, 2007 in Gallery E.
