CMCC disappointed Union rejected a fair and reasonable offer for its 420 members

Gatineau, Quebec, September 18, 2009 — This morning, PSAC rejected CMCC’s offer for a settlement. CMCC management is deeply disappointed with the results of the negotiation sessions. “We came to the table hoping that the union would adopt a more reasonable position,” said Elizabeth Goger, CMCC Chief Negotiator.

CMCC’s settlement offer represented the results of exhaustive negotiations all with the objective of responding to employees’ demands in a fair and reasonable fashion. Management offered enhanced job security protection and substantial wage increases. Had the offer been accepted, by April 1, 2012 CMCC employees would have received on average between a 12% and 17% salary increase. Unfortunately the Union refused to budge and continues to ask for excessive demands that would raise our salary costs by at least 30%. “We simply cannot afford that” underlined Ms. Goger. “Canadians expect publicly funded institutions to be fiscally responsible.”

CMCC Management sincerely regrets the potential impact that the union’s decision will have on its employees and museum visitors. It hopes that the PSAC will let employees vote on the offer before Monday morning.
