The Miami, for their part, established trade relations with the British in Pennsylvania and Virginia, but the French forced them to change sides by destroying one of their villages. Soon after New France was ceded to Britain in 1763, British merchants took possession of the French posts located south of the Great Lakes and became the main trading partners of the Algonquians.
