Louis-Joseph Papineau’s armchair

This armchair was used by Louis-Joseph Papineau when he served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada between 1815 and 1837. Having failed to achieve political reforms through parliamentary means, he became one of the leaders of the Rebellions of 1837 and 1838.
