Gatineau, Quebec, June 4, 2013 — Can a butterfly be a movie star? Can the migration of millions of Monarch butterflies captivate and inspire an audience? The Canadian Museum of Civilization and Ottawa Capital Region Macaroni Kid ─ a free website and newsletter for parents looking for quality kid-friendly things to do in Ottawa ─ want to know what kids think, at the first-ever Kids’ IMAX® Film Critics Challenge.

Children in grades 4 to 7 are invited to attend a free screening of Flight of the Butterflies 3D on Saturday, June 8 at 10 a.m. at the Museum’s IMAX Theatre (or French screening at 5 p.m.). Following the screening, kids are encouraged to write a movie review of up to 150 words and submit it to our panel of expert judges, for a chance to win a year of free IMAX movies.

Seating is limited and must be reserved in advance by calling 819-776-7010. Each family may reserve up to six seats. Admission is also free for parents and siblings.

“It will be fascinating to read the reviews,” said IMAX Theatre Manager David Henderson. “We expect the screening to be full of energy and tremendous fun.”

Young critics have until Friday, June 14 to email their reviews to Sara-Lynne Levine, editor and publisher of Ottawa Capital Region Macaroni Kid, at saralynne@macaronikid.com.

On Thursday, June 27, two winners will be announced: one in the grade 4-5 category and one in the grade 6-7 category. The winners will see their reviews published on the Ottawa Capital Region Macaroni Kid website and receive an IMAX Club membership for their whole family, providing them unlimited access to regular priced IMAX films for a year.

“This unique event may inspire a new generation of writers and film critics. I am eager to read the reviews and to see how their creativity and imagination take flight,” said Ms. Levine, who will sit on the panel of judges along with Mr. Henderson.
