Two Drawer Lamp Table

This table is a companion piece to the Sheraton sofa table (CMH 2007.22.222). Its form, particularly the robust turnings on the legs, suggests the influence of the Empire designs that gained popularity in Canada during the 1830s and 1840s. The drop leaves are an added feature that could be used to expand the working surface for activities such as writing or sewing. Both this table and the sofa table have drawers front and back, so they may be used from either side.
