Sheraton Sofa Table

Sofa tables are very much in the English tradition and were first popularized by the designs published by Thomas Sheraton in the 1790s. Very few were made in the United States, and most Canadian examples date from 1810 to 1840. The form of this particular table, a companion piece to CMH 2007.22.100, was directly patterned after the designs of Sheraton with the exception of the moulded edge around the top. This feature was a concession to the evolving tastes of the period 1830 to 1850.
