The pronghorn was also very abundant in the prairies, and its hide was especially valued as material for clothing. Some nations, such as the Cree and the Saulteaux, also fished, but others, such as the Blackfoot, scorned fishing as a means of subsistence. In the warm season, the women gathered a wide variety of wild fruits and edible roots, which they usually dried and added to dried-meat soup to enhance the taste.
