These watercolour sketches were made in February 1840 to demonstrate what the new Penny and Twopenny stamps would look like in their proposed colours. The Queen's profile chosen for the stamps was drawn from William Wyon's city medal, which features the silhouette of then Princess Victoria at age fifteen.
