Hat, Haida, 1884 This hat, woven from spruce root, is decorated with a painted bird, an emblem for the lineage of the hat's owner. The bird probably a raven is designed as a split image; the parts of the bird are distributed around the hat, conforming to its conical shape. CMC VII-B-891 |
