Suggested Post-Visit Activities

(Activities can be adapted to classroom requirements and grade levels)

  • Chose an artistic technique (block-printing, ink on paper, clay, tie-dye, etc.) that you like, and create your own unique piece of art.
  • Choose a story (fable, myth, etc.) from Indian mythology or from another culture, and create a piece of art (tapestry, dance piece, play), based on what you have seen, that illustrates the story.
  • Write a review (newspaper, magazine, radio, and television) for a larger audience about three aspects of the exhibition that you really enjoyed – or even aspects that you did not enjoy.
  • As a class, choose one theme (i.e. Spring) and create a number of different art pieces (sculpture, dance, beadwork, batik etc.) representing this theme, using the techniques you have observed.
  • Using the step-by-step instructions provided by the Museum, create a "clay" sculpture. Students can use something like Play-Doh® or Plasticine®to imitate the artisan's clay figurine.
  • Using techniques learned at the Museum, create your own rangoli design.
