Puzzle Jug

This jug reflects the Brownscombe family’s English roots and was probably made as much for fun as to demonstrate the skill of the potter. The puzzle, or challenge, is to remove the liquid from the jug without spilling it. The perforations in the upper neck restrict one’s ability to pour out the liquid. The answer lies in a void inside the rim and down the handle to the bottom. When a person sucks on one of the rim spouts while placing a finger over the other spouts (to maintain suction), he or she can drink the contents as if using a straw.
