Canopy Bed

The canopy form, which is not commonly found in Canada, is derived from beds with curtains on all sides to provide warmth in cold weather and privacy in houses with open living spaces. This example, with its large scrolled headboard and turned posts, expresses the influence of Empire designs during the mid-1800s. The original oak side rails have been replaced with metal rails and the canopy lengthened 15 centimetres to accommodate modern needs and preferences.
