Blanket Chest

This well-proportioned blanket chest is very much in the tradition of Niagara Region furnishings from the mid-1800s. Hooks or spurs similar to those that form the bracket feet of this chest were used in varying arrangements on the feet of many Niagara case pieces of the period. The majority of blanket chests made in Ontario were made from softwoods, such as white pine, and painted for decorative effect.
