Welcome to the Red River Métis Village!

Plan Your Visit

Enjoy the beautiful culture of the Métis people from the Red River, as we bring our rich and vibrant history to life at the Métis Village.

Please join our Elders for a story and the chance to listen and learn Michif, the language of the Métis people. Enjoy a cup of tea and some bannock. Be entertained by the best Métis musicians and dancers, as they bring fiddle music to life. Let our dancers pull you into the party and teach you a few jigging steps. The village offers plenty for all ages. As you walk through, you will be greeted by Métis historians and storytellers dressed in traditional period outfits, and in the Children’s Booth, your children will be fully engaged and entertained with songs and crafts as they learn about Métis culture and history. Our displays fill the walls with history and culture, and our Métis interpreters are happy to share their knowledge with those wishing to learn more about the Métis Nation. There will be plenty of Manitoba-made products on hand, such as Métis jewelry, preserves, clothing and books, should you be inclined to make a purchase.

Manitoba (Red River) was the first province brought into Confederation by an Indigenous leader, Louis Riel. Come celebrate with the Métis Nation as we honour our vibrant history, culture and Manitoba’s 150th anniversary as a province and the fifth province to join the Confederation!

This event is presented by the Métis National Council and the Manitoba Metis Federation in partnership with the Canadian Museum of History and with the participation of the Government of Canada.
