Plan Your Visit

An inspiring documentary about an all-female Inuit hockey team’s quest to win the 2010 Great Whale Cup, followed by a question-and-answer session with the film’s producer and one of its stars.

Celebrate the Hockey exhibition and a belated Mother’s Day by taking in a screening of The Uluit: Champions of the North, a documentary about an all-female Inuit hockey team in Inukjuak, Nunavik (northern Quebec). The team — named for the traditional rounded knives used by Inuit women — is made up of daughters, mothers, grandmothers and friends who are bonded by a sport they love and a way of life they cherish.

Watch these extraordinary Indigenous women in their everyday lives as they struggle, overcome and skate their way to the 2010 Great Whale Hockey Cup. This true tale provides an enlightening and emotional look into a remote community that is steeped in tradition yet facing the demands of a modern world.

Following the screening, there will be a question-and-answer session with the film’s producer and one of its stars.

For audiences ages 14 and up. In English.
