Survivors’ Stories

Plan Your Visit

The new Canadian History Hall features the stories of a group of Survivors of the Alberni Indian Residential School whose childhood art was discovered as part a gift of artworks to the University of Victoria and returned to them as part of the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

We welcome these Survivors, members of the Huu-ay-aht, Kitselas, Gitanyow, Ditidaht, Ahousaht and Uchucklesaht First Nations, as our special guests and invite you to hear their stories. Dr. Andrea Walsh from the University of Victoria will discuss the repatriation project that brought them together, and the group will discuss their ongoing reconciliation and education work.

The panel is in English with simultaneous translation into French.

Recommended Audience: Youth ages 16+ and adults
