Celebrate Black History Month with a groundbreaking play about the community of Africville in Nova Scotia.

Nova Scotia’s Voices Black Theatre Ensemble brings its award-winning play to the National Capital Region in commemoration of Black History Month. Once: Africville Stories gives voice to the people of Africville. In the 1960s — in the name of urban renewal — the City of Halifax razed the African-Nova Scotian community, scattering its residents. The play takes audiences on a journey through true stories of individuals and community events.

The performance on Friday, February 1, includes a post-show reception featuring a cash bar, Nova Scotia-inspired hors d’oeuvres, music from the Juno-Award-winning Africville Suite, and an opportunity to mingle with the cast. Audience members are also invited to learn more about Africville in the Canadian History Hall. (January 31, no reception)

This theatrical performance is presented with support from Arthur B. C. Drache, C.M., Q.C. and Judy Young Drache.

In English with French surtitles.
