Flag Day Celebration

Canada’s iconic maple leaf flag turns 55 – come celebrate with us!

Show some Canadian pride this Flag Day, and uncover the story of Canada’s distinctive red and white flag. Before February 15, 1965, Canada’s flag was the Red Ensign. The quest for a more Canadian flag encompassed a nation-wide design competition, resulting in the adoption of the single red maple leaf we know and love today. Check out some of the other proposals, and try your hand at creating your own flag in the Hub of the Canadian History Hall. This year’s double-celebration – our national anthem turns 40 – is your chance to celebrate equality, diversity, and inclusion.
