- Additional Information Inscribed and given to Mackenzie in 1794 in recognition of the completion of his overland journey to the Pacific Ocean in 1793. This first crossing of the continent at its centre proved that it was possible to establish a trading system linking the Atlantic and the Pacific through what is now Canada.
