- Additional Information This bodice is formed from cut and voided plum coloured velvet with ribbed silk ground. Boned and fitted; pointed fronts have two darts on each side of centre front; closely buttoned opening. The back was cut in six pieces, the centre in four pieces ending in points at waist, forming a slight peplum. Bodice has a stand-up collar, long, shaped two-piece sleeves with short slit openings at wrists, and is lined with matching silk. The stitched-in linen tape at the inner waistband has a stamp in gold between two coats of arms that says, 'T.Beattie & Co. Modes & Robes, London'.-. Trim missing. This clothing came from the Archibald family of Kemptville, Ontario (formerly of Hicks Corners, now Hickston, Ontario), where they were merchants as early as 1850. This is probably the jacket-type bodice of a dress worn at winter afternoon affairs.
