- Additional Information Dress made of golden brown ribbed silk, moiré silk and silk plush. It has two gilt and silvered metal buckles. The long fitted bodices are in ribbed silk at front and back. The bodice is boned in the following places: right edge of centre front opening; two darts at either side of opening; side seams; centre back seam; in side-back seams. There are long triangular panels of plush down centre back and centre front; joins are concealed by lines of pleated ribbed silk down either side. Front plush panel conceals centre front opening and hooks under pleats on right front. Plush stand-up collar has a band around its lower edge which flares slightly and is finished at centre back with a buckle that is surmounted by a plush rosette. There is a matching buckle at centre front. The moiré silk sleeves are gathered and slightly puffed on top of shoulder. Dress is lined throughout with light brown cotton twill; facing of ribbed silk around the bottom. Skirt has centre front and centre back panels of moiré silk; centre back panel is shirred at top. The side panels are of ribbed silk and are closely pleated on each side of centre front panel and continue to back with wide pleats. There's an underskirt of glazed brown cotton twill with a band of moiré silk around the bottom. This style of bodice is typical of the period and frequently illustrated in fashion history books.
