- Additional Information White cotton christening dress, hand sewn with machine-sewn tucks. Bodice and skirt decorated by white satin stitch floral and eyelet embroidery lace. Bodice has a square neckline and small cap sleeves, each with the cotton lace edging; triangular insert on front bodice of the floral and eyelet lace edged with more eyelet lace. Long back opening extending into skirt (ties at neck and waist are missing). Skirt and bodice gathered into wide waistband. Skirt has a triangular front panel with top plain section edged with scalloped embroidered and eyelet lace; lower section decorated by series of five tucks, a band of eyelet and floral lace, five tucks, lace band, five tucks, lace band and five tucks; wide hem. This baby dress was made by Mrs. Thomas Mackenzie of River John, Nova Scotia circa 1860.
